On February 18, which was the first Sunday in Lent, Kaylin Pauls shared her personal experience with fasting during Lent last year. It is so exciting to hear how God is working in the lives of some of the youngest members of our church community! If you were unable to be at the service, you can read her testimony below.
I started learning about lent in Kindergarten which was two years ago. I learned that Jesus went into the dessert and fasted for 40 days and that we can follow his example by practicing lent. My teacher gave us some ideas of things to fast from like giving up treats, TV, or a favourite toy.
I decided to follow Jesus’ example of fasting when I was 5 years old and gave up TV and movies for all of lent. I loved to watch TV so this was not an easy thing to do and really amazed my parents that I decided to do this. For those 40 days every time I wanted to watch a show, I remembered that it was lent and that I wanted to follow Jesus. After lent was over, my family and I went to the movie theater and watched Zootopia to celebrate the end of the fast.
This year I am going to fast from chocolate and so is my mom. Every time we wish we could have some, we will remember our love and commitment to following Jesus. In Proverbs 3:5&6 it says,
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.”
I think that when we fast from something we love, it helps us learn to acknowledge God more.
Thank you!
