General Volunteer Info

A person who serves on our tech team will typically be scheduled once every 3-4 weeks. We try to keep volunteers scheduled frequently enough to keep skills sharp, while being mindful of not burning them out.

All tech volunteers who are scheduled for a given week are required to be at the pre-service sound check/run through that happens Sunday morning. Those who are scheduled for audio positions are also expected to attend the Wednesday evening worship practice.

Volunteer scheduling is done with an app called Planning Center Services. The app is available in an iOS version as well as an android version. We will send an email with a link to create an account when we are adding you to the team. When you are placed on the schedule, you will receive an email and a Planning Center Services notification showing which service you have been placed on the schedule for. From there, you will be able to accept or decline the request to serve. The request will include the position you have been scheduled for, times we want you to be present, as well as any other relevant info. The Planning Center Services app will also allow you to view the plan for each service.

Tech Positions

Sanctuary Projection

This position is responsible for controlling all the media that is displayed on the screen in the sanctuary. This includes lyrics during worship, slides during the sermon, and other graphics or name slides used throughout the service.

The piece of software used for this position is called ProPresenter 7. This is a paid program but a free version is available for download on this page. Feel free to try it out on your own device.

For this position, it can be beneficial to have a basic understanding of music. It will go a long way to know what a verse, chorus, and bridge are and be able to pick them out in a song. Good attention to detail and the ability to focus on the task are also very useful skills. You do not need any prior tech-team experience to serve in this capacity. We will train you on everything you need to know.

Sanctuary Audio

This position is responsible for mixing all the audio in the sanctuary. This includes the band during worship as well any times where people are speaking (sermon, announcements, welcome, etc.).

The person in this position will work with our sound board, the Yamaha CL5.

For this position it is very beneficial to have a good understanding of music and how music generally should sound. Having a musical background will make the learning process much easier and faster.

Broadcast CG

This position is very similar to the sanctuary projection position. This position is responsible for controlling all the media that is displayed on the live stream. This includes lyrics during worship, slides during the sermon, and other graphics or name slides used throughout the service. It is worth noting that this position and the sanctuary projection position are completely separate and isolated. What the Broadcast CG person does has no impact on the slides shown in the sanctuary and vice versa.

Broadcast Audio

This position is very similar to the sanctuary audio position. The difference is that this position is only responsible for the audio that goes out to the live stream. The mix is completely separate from the sanctuary mix, and is tailored for an online audience. The live stream needs to sound good regardless if someone is listening on headphones, phone speakers, or a tv.

For this position we use the Yamaha M7CL-32 sound board. Audio is monitored using Yamaha HS8s.

Broadcast Video

This position is responsible for controlling the video that goes out to the live stream. This includes controlling our PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) cameras and ensuring the graphics sent from the CG position are correctly overlaid over the camera feeds.

The person in this position will work with our Blackmagic Design Television Studio Pro 4k video switcher. They will also use OBS for sending out the live stream, as well as the software for controlling the PTZ cameras.

For this position it is beneficial to have an eye for a camera angle that looks good as well as a basic understanding of composition.
